It’s only a little over a month since I returned to the ‘daily grind’ and already I find myself day dreaming about making a quick getaway into the great outdoors for a little r ‘n r. There is something quite appealing about immersing myself in a gorgeous landscape, the way the air smells cleaner when I’m away from the city, the sounds (or lack of) that surround me when I get back to nature.
While I acknowledge camping isn’t for everyone, there are ways to do it in style. This is where I’d rather be right now …
In the heart of the World Heritage-listed national park is this private camp, owned by Kimerley Wild Expeditions. The only campsite offering views of the Bungles Massif, take in the outback landscape and the sparkling night skies of the Kimberley region. Visit http://www.bunglesafaricamp.com.au
Described as “camping for adults who enoy their comforts” the luxury tents blur the lines between inside and out. From your king-sized bed or vintage tin bath the views of wallabies eating or parrots playing are there to be enjoyed. Visit http://www.nightfall.com.au
A short 10km drive from Sydney, Tandara is regarded as the perfect place for luxury camping or a romantic weekend away. There is abundant wildlife and uninterrupted views of the Lane Cove Valley, and you are encouraged to do as much or as little as you like. Oh, and as there is only one glamorous tent you’ll have the experience all to yourself. Visit http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/lane-cove-national-park/tandara/accommodation
Located less than an hour’s drive from Hobart is the Huon Bush Retreat; a carbon positive retreat offering a range of camping options including these unique deluxe tipees, each of which is set among its own individual forest setting. Visit http://www.huonbushretreats.com
The only beachside safari camp, Sal Salis is surrounded by sand dunes and the azure waters of Ningaloo Reef. Enjoy the sounds of the local wildlife or the waves gently caressing the shore. Visit http://www.salsalis.com.au
